HEALTH AND NUTRITION PROGRAM

under this health and nutrition sector program as a long-term (October’1995 to December’2004) associate of UK DFID, SJA has implemented Community Based Essential Service Package the which included components of : reproductive health care, child health care, communicable disease control and prevention (TB, Leprosy), limited curative care and behavior change communication, maternal nutrition, ARI, diarrhoeal disease control, adolescent health care, referral and follow-up under DFID’s SHAPLA program; Integrated Maternal Child Health & Family Planning, Safe motherhood and Community Clinic Pilot Project in Sylhet district. Considering the adolescent special health and social needs and particularly benefit from a supportive home and community environment. To address this, SJA has initiated as a part of its reproductive health, a health service component focused on the needs of adolescents with the aims to provide clear information regarding common
reproductive health problem of adolescent, a counseling service and individual case management including referral to local specialized facilities where necessary.

– with the financial support of UNICEF along with the association of PHD, SJA had implemented Maternal and Neonatal Health Project at the four upazilas of Moulvibazar district by providing support for quality planning, implementation and monitoring of community support system
(ComSS) interventions.

– in the year of 2003, the MOHFW handed over Charcandi community clinic to SJA which is located at Biswanath Upazila of Sylhet district. SJA independently manages & runs the community clinic as a pilot project and gradually actively involved the local community people
and provide quality of services for the targeted population. Notably, SJA is the first NGO in Sylhet division that has such responsibilities to run GoB Clinic for ensuring health services independently as a model.

– in June’2001, with a special focus on Nutrition for rural women, SJA started its separate Integrated Nutrition Programme in Derai Upazila of Sunamgonj district.

– for the last 19 years, SJA is working on tobacco control issues in Sylhet Division as a pioneer and active member of the Bangladesh Anti-Tobacco Alliance (BATA). SJA organized advocacy, a number of divisional level capacity building workshops, seminars and campaigns by which many district-level organizations of the division involved in tobacco control. SJA contributed national-level tobacco control movement for the development of tobacco control law before it has passed in the National Parliament in 2005 and amendment in 2013.
